Herzlia, Israel, July 20, 2011 – Flash Networks, a leading global provider of intelligent mobile Internet solutions, announced today the results of live tests measuring the effect of data optimization on radio access network (RAN) resources.
In a recent experiment conducted on a European operator’s HSDPA network, Flash Networks’ Web & Media Optimization solution reduced cell power consumption by 25%, throughput by 30%, timeslot usage by 20%, and code shortage by 30%. In addition, Flash Networks’ optimization successfully freed-up 40% of bandwidth on a fully-utilized cell, enabling the operator to service more subscribers with the same radio resources while providing them with better quality of experience.
Using network optimization to move less data through the network can reduce power consumption, thereby providing a more green solution to help operators address the data traffic boom. In addition, more efficient bandwidth utilization can delay additional equipment purchases, such as base stations and wireless backhaul, and minimize the associated costs to power and cool the equipment, adding another level of energy efficiency.
Last November the GSMA launched their Mobile Energy Efficiency (MEE) Network Benchmarking Service to encourage operators to cut down energy consumption. The initiative has been well received with 20 operators signing up that together manage 150 networks across 100 countries, accounting for 40% of global mobile subscribers.
“We are encouraged by the results of this experiment as they demonstrate the dramatic effect of optimization on radio resources,” said Merav Bahat, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at Flash Networks. “By implementing web and video optimization, operators can minimize their need to invest in additional radio infrastructure and power, while providing their subscribers with the best possible user experience.”
